Marine Life & Great White Shark Tour, Small Group

Quick Details

Welcome aboard the Meridian for a tour of Monterey Bay in search of the great white shark!

What to expect

June and July is great white shark season! Temperatures at the shark zone are usually in the 70 to 80 Fahrenheit range. It will still be chilly to and from so layer your clothes. All departures at 11:15 am. We travel North to a protected cove, where we will see sharks basking on the surface in these shallow waters. We could see other wildlife such as whales, sea otters, sea lions and dolphins but the main goal is the great white. On any given day during this short window 10-25 great whites are known to be in this area. Please join us to have an experience of a lifetime! The great whites are curious and are known to swim alongside are vessel on some trips!

What to Bring

  • Layered clothing
  • Shoes: Hiking or tennis shoes – they are flat-soled with good traction and securely laced to your feet. Heels, flip flops and open shoes are a bad idea. Rubber boots work well, especially in wet weather.
  • Hat: For shade and/or warmth. Ball caps and canvas wide-brimmed hat with cords work well.
  • Sunglasses: Polarized are best, with a keeper cord.
  • Sunscreen: Use it often; the sun can be surprisingly strong, even on an overcast day.
  • Camera/Extra Batteries & Storage Media: Your best bet is a camera with a good telephoto lens. Go-pro on a stick
  • Binoculars: Not essential, unless you are a birder. If you are experienced with them, bring them along, as a steady hand can provide extra great views of some
whales if they happen to be in the area.
  • Notebook: To jot down particulars about the trip or identifying marks on the whales or sharks. We’ll tell you how to ID whales and you can either take photographs or sketch what you see. Wouldn’t it be something to see that whale again?
  • Please bring food or snacks. We will have some snacks/water on hand as well for $2.00 each
